9-Box Talent Assessment Platform

Project Overview

Architected and developed a full-featured Talent Management platform for a SaaS HR technology company. The system empowers HR leaders and executives to conduct structured employee performance assessments using the industry-standard 9-Box Grid methodology. It supports complete CRUD operations, role-based access control across Admin, Executive, and Manager roles, real-time multi-dimensional filtering, and a fully responsive design across desktop, tablet, and mobile. The platform handles assessments for over 1,000 employees with complex workflows including draft saving, inline editing, calibration reviews, and rich-text evidence documentation.

Challenges

• Managing complex application state across multi-dimensional filters and pagination

• Building an interactive 9-Box Grid with clickable segments and dynamic axis labels

• Implementing granular role-based access across 8 permission levels for Admin, Executive, and Manager roles

Solutions

• Designed a centralized React Context with useReducer for complex state management including filter persistence and optimistic UI updates

• Developed custom React hooks with TanStack Query for data fetching, caching, mutations, and cache invalidation strategies

• Built enterprise-grade tables with server-side pagination, expandable details, inline editing, and custom cell renderers

Results

• Enabled HR teams to assess 1,000+ employees across 9 performance segments with a streamlined digital workflow
